Smart Bugs? During 2007-09, I worked outdoors building a house in a very remote area along Northern California’s Lost Coast, the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline in the continental United States. The environment was an entomologist’s dream! Insects of every color, shape, size were abundant. Bats also were plentiful, given the availability of food. Prior to this time, no cellular service was available for miles in any direction. Progress finally caught up with this underserved area, and a communications tower was erected on a high hill overlooking forest, coastline, and sea. Known amongst locals as “The Evil Red Eye,” the tower was topped with red lights to alert small planes to its location. Over time, the availability of cellular service improved. Somewhat. But as connectivity became more common, the beautiful abundance of insects became less so. The bugs started disappearing—not the pesky ones, but the flashy flying exotic varieties became scarce before finally disappearing. As their food source retreated, the bats likewise became less common. The only environmental modification that could have caused these changes was the introduction of heretofore absent radio frequencies emanating from the tower. Are we to believe that—on a cellular level—these electromagnetic frequencies are any safer for us than they were for the bugs?

Eight years ago i was a healthy & active 72 y/o male, with a condition called MCS,(multipal chemical sensetivity). we had moved to a country town to avoid chemical exposure, & lived happily & healthy for the next 14 y/s.The town where we lived had little to no mobile phone reception, so the good old telcoes put up a tower on a hill at the end of town, bang, great reception..BUT, i began to suffer with cronic exhaustion, i soon was unable to do anything physical or mental.my exhaustion stole my entire life. BUT, an amazing thing happened that helped me to understand what was happening to me. i went camping in the bush, far away from the effects of RF, & immediatly i began to feel better, & wondered why, On returning home i emmediatly began to become exhausted again & stayed that way, untill i went camping again. the penny droped, the only thing that had changed was a tower was installed in town So i enquired weather this could be affecting me, & through an expert in this feild i was assured it could affect me.I contacted a GP practicing in this field, & it was confermed , i had become a sufferer of RF.WE had to sell up & move to where i could live. i now have to fully dress in RF protection whenever i leave home.I socialise very little because being RF dressed can be very uncomfortable at times. I am now 81 & suffer terribly with my nerves, they are badly damaged by RF. I have reserched this stuff for years, reading books, & have learned that RF effects animals & plants also. At the same time as i became affected i noticed that my vegitable garden was doing unusual things to, plants just stoped growing & would not bear fruit....I was told to shield tham with bird wire & they would grow. They were right, anything not shielded just didnt grow. I have a video of this. Next i noticed 5 different birds hopping around on one leg, strang, i had lived here for16 yrs & never seen anything like this before. These are the effects i have read about in books written by experts in this feild.Thank you for the oppertunity to tell my story, few are interested enough to listen. BILL ZELLER

I respectfully submit this comment as an individual member of the public and as someone who believes I have personally experienced adverse effects associated with modern wireless and digital technologies. I ask HHS to carefully investigate such experiences through independent, transparent scientific research, while considering possible effects on human health, children, animals, and the environment. I also request that future policies consider affected individuals and possible support, monitoring, and protection mechanisms where credible evidence identifies risks. I am an individual, born and living in The Netherlands. I am affected in every part of my life, for over 10 years now. I face increasing digital discrimination and exemption. At the moment I can not work, can not study, social interacting is getting more difficult without a mobile phone. My children can not live with me (not my choice) and live with their dad, I takes the time of a full time job to rebalance myself. I live secluded from society, in the middle of a busy place....no one really seems to care. No doctor wants to or can help. Although this has all been so so difficult and hard: I am very grateful for being EHS-wired. In an unspoiled natural environment the symphony and poetry of life is singing and dancing in and through me. The down side is that in an electromagnetic polluted environment It is like being in a blender.... I hope with my whole heart EHS will be recognized soon, so all sensitive animals, trees, plants, insects and humans can be restored in the delicate balance of our planets eco-system. No safety studies have been done on 5G and cell phone science has many parallels to tobacco science. Studies paid for by industry are unlikely to find any evidence of hazard while research funded from independent sources are much more likely to find evidence of harm. Insurance companies are aware of the true EMF risks and refuse coverage to the wireless industry. The FCC is considered to be a captured agency by Harvard ethicists with prior commissioners having strong ties to industry. For that reason, the agency grants the telecom companies whatever they want in terms of expansion of wireless systems without addressing significant safety concerns. The FDA and EPA which could have a role in regulating health and environmental impacts are also captured. EMF hazards also cause harm to trees, birds, bees, and other insects. A 2021 lawsuit against the FCC was won by Children’s Health Defense and the Environmental Health Trust. The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled the FCC’s 2019 decision that its 1996 guidelines adequately protect the public from non-cancer harms from 5G and wireless-based technologies was capricious, arbitrary and not evidence-based. Unfortunately, the FCC has ignored the court’s mandate and has not updated its safety guidelines. Please take action to update these standards immediately.

We live in an apartment building. Several years ago smart meters were installed. Our song birds left. They have not returned. It’s very sad and unnatural to not have beautiful birds singing

I am submitting this comment in response to HHS’s Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs), Radiofrequency (RF) Radiation, and Wireless Radiation Exposure. I am responding from the perspective of a researcher, environmentalist and advocate for persons with the functional impairment known as electrosensitivity.who has experienced it herself. My research has documented biological and environmental effects from RF sources such as smart electricity meters and 5G transmissions. I am a member of Life-Environmental Network, a Japanese NGO advocating for the rights of persons with electrosensitivity and multiplechemical sensitivity. I am a US citizen living abroad. I am attaching a summary of my observations on the introduction of smart meters and my full report on changes in flora and fauna coinciding with the introduction of 5G service in the area I currently reside in. It is important to note that for people with electyrosensitivity, including myself, the world where we can safely conduct our activities has become increasingly narrow. We had to move out of Tokyo to a rural area, in particular for my husband's health, but I also find it hard to tolerate the environment in large cities.I've had to install RF-shielding material at home, and can no longer enjoy eating at restaurants that have introduced wireless ordering equipment.The electrosensitive have to limit their time at public meetings, and many of them cannot tolerate computer equipment enough to participate on line, so our voices are heard infrequently, and many people who know about the problem assume it has been solved because they're not hearing from these people. Over the years, many people I've known with electrosensitivity have died or gone missing. In February 2020, a group of the affected patients assembled in Tokyo to talk with the ministries involved in health and telecommunications. They described their difficulties, including the social stigma they face, and they asked for a "leper colony" where they could live with others similarly affected and recover their health. Then COVID hit and no one could meet with anyone else, and it was all forgotten. This was Japan, but the people affected in other countries, including the US still exist and still need help. I hope their needs can be taken into consideration.

I live in a town in Wexford Ireland. I am surrounded by masts/antennas/smart meters/modems and mobiles phones, my ears are always ringing, some days it's unbearable, it's also known by some as microwave hearing, I get palpitations often, my skin feels like I have ants crawling on it, my eyes are sore, I get easily agitated in crowds, I get anxious and sometimes dizzy also, if I am in an area with lots of people, I do feel like I need to escape and that I am under attack. I can no longer socialize, so no more pubs/clubs/any music venues or gatherings unless it's somewhere I can escape away from everyone, I feel like my life is on hold. I am a keen gardener, I grow my own food and have noticed over the last 3 years that food is getting harder to grow and that there is less and less wildlife, I have also noticed that the environment is suffering, especially trees. My personal opinion is that after wildlife dying at such an alarming rate we will be next. I am the canary in the coal mine. My new modem from Vodafone, even though the WiFi is turned off emits pulsed radiation of over 3.000 mW/m2 which for me is a huge problem. I just wish for wifi free areas, especially my home, people should have a choice, people and wildlife should not have to live in a poisoned environment. Areas where there are a lot of people congregating should be wireless radiation free. I feel that wireless radiation is the new smoking, and that we should have areas where there is none.

I am submitting this comment in response to HHS’s Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs), Radiofrequency (RF) Radiation, and Wireless Radiation Exposure. I am responding from the perspective of a pet owner. In 2020 when they went live with 5G in my area, 5 out of 9 cats in my household starting having focal seizures. While I don't have proof that it was caused by 5G implementation, I am highly suspicious due to the fact that so many started having them at the same time. I support HHS taking an active role in examining the potential health and environmental effects of wireless radiation. Questions about human and animal health should be addressed by federal agencies with appropriate expertise in medicine, biology, epidemiology, and public health, and the experiences of individuals and families who report being affected should be considered alongside the scientific evidence. I urge HHS to carefully evaluate these experiences and the scientific evidence, identify gaps in current research, give particular attention to children and other potentially vulnerable populations, and establish appropriate federal research priorities regarding wireless radiation and public health. Thank you for providing individuals and families with an opportunity to be heard!

In response to the question of my personal health issues caused by exposure to EMFs, radio frequency, and wireless radiation exposure: I have not been able to go anywhere for over 10 years where there are groups of people, because of the high EMFs, etc. levels caused by their cellphones, and, of course, the proliferation of cell towers, including 5G. After so many years of being mostly stuck in the house, my mental state can be difficult to deal with. Wearing personal shielding clothing, I am only able to go to the store for groceries and other necessities, a local park, and the library for short periods of time. Due to the radiation from Smart Meters and cell towers in the vicinity of the mobile home park where we live, I can no longer spend time in my own backyard, which is adjacent to a beautiful, large creek. Sadly, I can no longer work in the garden. Before I got dramatically sick from cumulative wi-fi exposure on July 3, 2016, I was very active socially. For many years, I was a folk musician and performed all over the U.S and also in Europe. I also produced a music festival in Berkeley, California. But that life is over for me, now. When I got sick because of smart meters, cell towers, and the wi-fi router in our house, I couldn’t talk and I could barely walk, and what I did try to say was described as “gibberish”. Basically, my brain shut down to the bare minimum necessary to keep my body alive. It took 8 months of sleeping 10 hours a night in a house with absolutely no wi-fi and lots of shielding on the doors and windows (and excellent natural health care, including dietary measures) before I could think straight and communicate clearly again. I might add that after Smart Meters were put on the electric meters in our mobile home park with approximately 40 units, the bees and butterflies started dying. Of course, we “opted out” and convinced several neighbors close by to do the same. Actually, we have been paying their opt-out fees for about 8 years. I urge you to take the human and environmental consequences of EMF exposure seriously and consider slowing down the increasing number of 5G towers across the country. In making these important decisions for every American, please remember me and everyone who spoke against more microwave/EMF technology. You have a chance now to prevent the coming avalanche of cancer, atrial fibrillation, other heart problems, and nervous system disorders, including mental problems. Microwave radiation has a severe impact on the body, but by the time most people realize it, they are already very sick and it is difficult to recover. I am one of the lucky ones who managed to recover, thanks to my partner who has made a huge effort to totally shield our house, including the windows, to protect us. I will be 80 years old in December and I live in a mobile home that is totally shielded to keep out microwave-radiation, thanks to the efforts of my partner. We have incurred approximately $5,000 in costs for the shielding necessary to live in a wi-fi free home with WIRED computers and router. My partner is a wholistic chiropractor, and he has many patients who are ill (and some who have died) because of wi-fi exposure, including but not limited to cancer and atrial fibrillation, which is happening more and more across the U.S. We are very grateful to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for focusing on the dangers of this harmful technology. It’s long over-due for regulation.
