I live on a residential back street in a small, historic, rural town. Behind us is a farmer's field. The half of our street that is located in a different township has no streetlighting. Our half of the street is lit up like a stadium. This has been an ongoing situation since November 2025 regarding health and safety concerns with the installation of 4000K bright blue, unshielded LED streetlights on and into my home (and other households'). The Council and MetEd's plan to install them throughout the Borough, despite protests from multiple households. The single LED placed across the street from my home that started this whole journey was switched out to an unshielded high pressure sodium after complaints by numerous households and press involvement. They told me that this was temporary because 3000K LED unshielded lighting will be installed throughout the Borough so I should get used to it. I have photographs of the LED light, including on and in my home. It is dangerous to drive under these blue LEDs. You cannot see out of your car windows nor the backup camera. There is so much glare. It is an absolutely unbearable light that is the visual equivalent of loud music being played all night long. I and others in my town have complained multiple times to local government, The PA Public Utility Commission, and the PA Human Relations Committee, as local government has refused to stop it, refuses to shield it, and it impacts every aspect of my life, especially my sleep. The power company does not care and has lied to other municipalities (like Easton, PA) about how bright and disruptive the lights are. I live in terror of the bright blue light returning at any time. It is an illegal public nuisance, and local government officials told me to just sue them. We have an online petition and a written petition. Please ban these horrible lights now. We should have energy efficient Low Pressure Sodium bulbs or at least orange LEDs (2000K or less) that are shielded, so they light the public areas only, and not onto and into our properties. There are people, including children, in our town who get seizures from LED lights. The local government knows and does not care. These LED lights are specifically not approved for residential areas. The photos are of my street and home under the blue-rich LED light. You can see the horrible glare that the light has from the street. Blackout blinds and curtains do not stop the light from coming into our homes. These LED lights are ruining our lives. No one should have to go through what we are going through. Please ban them from public street-lighting NOW!!!!!
I can testify to a near fatality involving LED headlamps. It involved 3 cars. One, with LED headlamps, in the opposite lane of other two cars. I was in the first car, without LEDs, and was approaching a curve over a gorge. Another car was behind me, also no LEDs from my rearview mirror assessment. Second car may have been travelling too close to my car but not unsafely. The car approaching us in the opposing lane came into our sightline while we entered the curve. I was totally blinded by the LEDs and had to apply my brakes hard because I did not know where I was on the curve. The second driver did the same but not as quickly because, when the LEDs had passed and our eyes adjusted, she was nearly touching my bumper. We could both have plummeted into that gorge, and the LED driver wouldn't have even known to call rescue. Afterall, they could see clearly even as they blinded us.
The new LED headlights need to be regulated and reined in. They blind oncoming traffic and create hazardous conditions. There has to be a compromise where the lights are bright enough for safe driving for everyone on the road.
My comment is specific to EMF and also visible light emitted by LED headlights. Recent automotive LED headlights in some cases flicker and are ultra-bright, and intensive which although may not cause direct damage through EMF emissions, the temporary BLINDNESS they cause pedestrians and other drivers can cause immediate danger. This is not a matter of mis-adjusted headlights but of properly adjusted headlights that are just too intense.
I was at an elementary school event. I had 2 children in the car, ages 8 and 10, and we were leaving the parking lot after the event. A car, that was parked facing me, had the blinding LED headlights on and I could not see to move forward. Even the children commented on them. Children and parents were walking around me and I was afraid to move. The LED headlight car was waiting for me to move but I had no where to go. The car finally took a U turn so I could get to safety. These lights are very frightening. Thank you
The current headlights on cars makes it very difficult to see when all that you see from these headlights are just blinding white light. I personally cannot see anything beyond that and find that I have to avert my eyes from it and then also worry about how it takes my eyes to adjust while driving in the dark.
My Opthalmologist once explained to me that the rods in my eyes are white which makes me hypersensitive to light and makes everything appear much brighter than for the average person. Therefore, I try to avoid driving in the dark because all headlights are blinding. But especially with the most current headlights.
Please ban these headlights that are blinding for the safety of everyone on the road including pedestrians and those riding bicycles.
I have actively stopped driving at night (when avoidable), as the array of seemingly unregulated headlights is disorienting and blindingly bright. We are heading into dark season, so it becomes less avoidable and more troubling. The levels of brightness is dangerous and unnecessary. Something needs to be done, as this shouldn't be allowed on our roads, this is unsafe
