I am submitting this comment in response to HHS’s Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs), Radiofrequency (RF) Radiation, and Wireless Radiation Exposure.
I am responding from the perspective of a concerned member of the public and a parent. With the proliferation of 5G towers across the country, without public input or feedback, we suddenly found ourselves living with a large tower across the street from our home. After a few months, I noticed my tinnitus getting worse within the house, while my wife's sleep patterns became more erratic and she was waking up much more in the night and feeling less rested in the morning. She said it wasn't because she was suddenly worrying about things more. My daughter also began frequently complaining how tired she was in the morning even after a full night's sleep. Her bedroom sits in direct line of sight with the tower across the street. Though all these events don't prove 5G is causing them, the timing is significant and many others across the country have experienced similar things and even much worse things. Is it all in our heads? The research the FCC is relying on is outdated. Meanwhile, much new research suggests continuous exposure to non-ionizing radiation can, in fact, be harmful. HHS needs to consider all relevant, current data and commission new studies. Nothing less than the health and well-being of all of us is at stake as this technology continues to expand unbounded with almost no controls, and almost no concern for public health.
I support HHS taking an active role in examining the potential health and environmental effects of wireless radiation. Questions about human health should be addressed by federal agencies with appropriate expertise in medicine, biology, epidemiology, and public health, and the experiences of individuals and families who report being affected should be considered alongside the scientific evidence.
I urge HHS to carefully evaluate these experiences and the scientific evidence, identify gaps in current research, give particular attention to children and other potentially vulnerable populations, and establish appropriate federal research priorities regarding wireless radiation and public health.
Thank you for providing individuals and families with an opportunity to be heard.
