I am submitting this comment in response to HHS’s Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs), Radiofrequency (RF) Radiation, and Wireless Radiation Exposure. I am responding from the perspective of a [patient, parent, family member, caregiver, healthcare professional, researcher, advocate, concerned member of the public, or other]. I moved into a new place in 2021 and suddenly I was exhausted all of the time, even after a full night’s sleep. After some time I started to wonder whether it could be because the internet company had run the wifi into my bedroom. In my old place the internet came into the house from a cable that was run into the living room. I decided to move the wifi connection to the living room but was still not feeling 100% so I turned off the wifi on the router and plugged in our devices with an ethernet cable. This solved the problem. During that time I bought an EMF meter and before I made changes to the wifi I had a reading of 2.1 in my bedroom. After I made the changes the reading went down to .7 everywhere in the house. Outside walking through the neighborhood the reading was at a 1. I did some research to find out what a safe level of EMF exposure is so that I could change the setting on my EMF meter to reflect the official safe level only to find that there wasn’t an official safe level of EMF exposure. This is a serious health concern. I support HHS taking an active role in examining the potential health and environmental effects of wireless radiation. Questions about human health should be addressed by federal agencies with appropriate expertise in medicine, biology, epidemiology, and public health, and the experiences of individuals and families who report being affected should be considered alongside the scientific evidence. I urge HHS to carefully evaluate these experiences and the scientific evidence, identify gaps in current research, give particular attention to children and other potentially vulnerable populations, and establish appropriate federal research priorities regarding wireless radiation and public health. Thank you for providing individuals and families with an opportunity to be heard.
