Further, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 restricts state and local governments from regulating wireless infrastructures (like cell towers) based on health or environment effects of radio frequency emission.”

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
As a future nurse practitioner (current student), I am deeply passionate about improving and advocating for public health. The FCC states, "The available scientific evidence does not show that any health problems are associated with using wireless phones." Further, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 restricts state and local governments from regulating wireless infrastructures (like cell towers) based on health or environment effects of radio frequency emission. Firstly, there is an overwhelming amount of research and studies that demonstrate the negative health effects of radio frequency / non-ionizing radiation on the human body (https://www.emf-portal.org/en). Secondly, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 is entirely outdated considering the exponential increase in technology since the early 2000s. Revisions to this act should include regular review of RF exposure standards, research, protection of sensitive locations such as schools, expand environmental review, increase transparency, and allow local governments and their constituents to have more decision-making power over wireless facility placement.
