Massive assessment of exposure to 5G electromagnetic fields in France: a 5-year synthesis

Research RF Safe Research Library Jan 1, 2026

This paper reports results from a large-scale, multi-phase measurement campaign in mainland France assessing changes in RF exposure associated with 5G deployment from 2020 to 2024. Using more than 24,000 on-ground measurements in direct view of 5G antennas, it finds small average increases in broadband exposure and increased contributions from 5G-related bands over time. The 3.5 GHz band contribution increased but remained a secondary contributor compared with legacy 800/900 MHz bands, and exposure during active downloading was higher than in idle mode.

Dual Evaluation and Spatial Analysis of RF-EMF Exposure in 5G: Theoretical Extrapolations and Direct Measurements

Research RF Safe Research Library Jan 1, 2025

This exposure assessment study evaluated 5G RF-EMF exposure using both theoretical extrapolations and direct measurements in semiurban and urban settings, including a campus case study. Measured and extrapolated exposure levels were reported to be within ICNIRP recommended limits, even under high network data demand. The authors also report a strong correlation between theoretical and instantaneous field exposures, supporting the validity of their dual-method framework.

Influence of geomagnetic disturbances on myocardial infarctions in women and men from Brazil

Research RF Safe Research Library Jan 1, 2025

This ecological analysis used a public health database of myocardial infarction admissions in São José dos Campos, Brazil (1998–2005) and categorized geomagnetic activity using the planetary Kp index. The abstract reports a higher relative frequency of MI admissions during disturbed geomagnetic conditions compared with quiet periods, with a stronger association in women. Unsupervised k-means clustering reportedly supported the sex-specific pattern.

Possible effects of RF EMR on contextual fear conditioning, hippocampal perivascular space, apoptosis and adrenal gland microarchitecture in rats

Research RF Safe Research Library Jan 1, 2025

This animal study exposed male Wistar rats to 900 MHz RF-EMR from a mobile phone for 1 hour daily over four weeks and assessed behavior and tissue changes. The authors report altered contextual fear conditioning-related behavior in exposed rats. Histological assessments indicated apoptosis and enlarged perivascular space in the hippocampal CA3 region and apoptotic/inflammatory-like changes in the adrenal zona fasciculata, with no reported differences in adrenal medulla cytoarchitecture.

Exposure to 900 MHz electromagnetic fields activates the mkp-1/ERK pathway and causes blood-brain barrier damage and cognitive impairment in rats

Research RF Safe Research Library Mar 19, 2015

This animal study exposed 108 male Sprague-Dawley rats to 900 MHz EMF (1 mW/cm2) or sham for 14 or 28 days (3 h/day). The authors report that 28-day exposure was associated with impaired spatial memory, BBB permeability damage, and ultrastructural changes in hippocampus and cortex. They also report increased mkp-1 expression and ERK dephosphorylation, proposing activation of the mkp-1/ERK pathway as a mechanism.

The effect of pulsed and sinusoidal magnetic fields on the morphology of developing chick embryos

Research RF Safe Research Library Jan 1, 1997

This animal study reports results from five experimental campaigns over five years examining weak magnetic field exposure and morphological abnormalities in White Leghorn chick embryos. Four campaigns reported statistically significant increases in abnormality rates, while one pulsed-field campaign showed only a small, non-significant increase. Pooled analyses reported increased abnormality rates for both pulsed and 60 Hz sinusoidal exposures compared with controls, and the authors propose genetic susceptibility as a possible confounder.
