To my experience the current exposure standards don’t protect health. These are designed to prevent over-heating but ignore non-thermal effects.\nAmple scientific evidence\nThere is ample scientific evidence that these man-made electromagnetic fields can have harmful effects, even at very low EMF intensities. \nProfessor, Dr. Lai, member of ICBE-EMF, has compiled summaries (https://www.saferemr.com/2018/02/effects-of-exposure-to-electromagnetic.html) of the research on the biological effects of EMF exposure. He finds the preponderance of hundreds of studies studies that examined the induction of oxidative effects as well as neurological and reproductive outcomes have reported significant effects. \n-\tELF and static fields studies: \t75% to 90% reported significant effects.\n-\tRFR studies: \t\t\t71% to 89% reported significant effects. \nLai states that biological systems are very sensitive to RFR  as 95% of the 237 low-intensity radiofrequency radiation (RFR) exposure studies published since 1990 report significant effects. He says that the current RFR exposure guidelines are not valid in the protection of the health detrimental effects of RFR.\nPanagopoulos’s review shows that biological effects (‘harmful effects’) are observed in almost 100 per cent of the studies. Comparing DNA damage induced by mobile telephony and other types of man-made electromagnetic fields. By Panagopoulos, D.J., 2019. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.mrrev.2019.03.003.\nNumerous urgent appeals have been made to the authorities\nIt is precisely because of this large number of studies demonstrating biological effects that hundreds of scientists and doctors from all over the world have, over the years, repeatedly called on the authorities to review the research into the effects of EMF, to carry out a thorough assessment of the health risks, and to draw up stricter safety standards. See e.g. https://emfscientist.org/index.php/emf-scientist-appeal.  \nEHS\nThese days, quite a lot of people suffer from EHS, a condition caused by environmental factors, also known as EMR syndrome, electrosensitivity, idiopathic environmental intolerance, and so on. The prevalence of people restricted in their access to work in a man-made electromagnetic environment is estimated at 0.65 per cent of the general population. This report estimates that the total number of people who are affected to some extent by EMF is much higher: between 5 per cent and 30 per cent. https://doi.org/10.15436/2378-6841.19.2402\nNowadays, EMF permeates every aspect of life; you cannot escape it, and there is nowhere left where you are safe. Without this EMF exposure, these people are healthy; it is an environmentally induced condition. EHS can have far-reaching consequences, and because the condition goes unrecognised, these people find themselves excluded from society.\nFor more data on the prevalence, further information about EHS,  the scientific research done on the subject , what needs to be done and my personal story, I refer to the attached documents.\nEHS a sentinel disease\nThe scientists and doctors mentioned above, recognise that EHS is the result of current levels of exposure. Significant is that they consider EHS a sentinel disease. https://www.5gappeal.eu/the-5g-appeal/\nIt is important to note that EHS symptoms can occur even at levels of electromagnetic fields that are well below the limits in force in the US. The established official standards, which are intended solely to prevent thermal effects caused by EMF, don’t take into account non-thermal and long term effects, nor effects for plants and animals and don’t distinguish between adults and children, or healthy and vulnerable people, the sick, elderly and EHS.\nThe very fact that EHS symptoms occur under real life exposure (lower than the standard limit values) proves in itself that EMF have harmful, non-thermal biological effects at EMF levels far lower than those currently considered safe by the authorities. Therefore, the evaluation of research into EMF and the revision of official exposure limits are important, not only for people with EHS, but for everyone.\nI urge HHS to conduct a thorough, independent review of whether current EMF exposure limits adequately protect the health of all people. This review needs to consider those most heavily exposed and the most vulnerable people, including the EHS affected. As part of the review, the studies mentioned here and the EHS studies set out in the appendixes must also be examined.\nICBE-EMF says  ELECTROMAGNETIC HYPERSENSITIVITY (EHS) IS A HUMANITARIAN CRISIS THAT REQUIRES AN URGENT RESPONSE. https://icbe-emf.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/ELECTROMAGNETIC-HYPERSENSITIVITY-EHS-IS-A-HUMANITARIAN-CRISIS-THAT-REQUIRES-AN-URGENT-RESPONSE-1.pdf\n\n","attachments":["https://downloads.regulations.gov/HHS-OASH-2026-0397-7030/attachment_2.pdf","https://downloads.regulations.gov/HHS-OASH-2026-0397-7030/attachment_2.docx","https://downloads.regulations.gov/HHS-OASH-2026-0397-7030/attachment_1.pdf","https://downloads.regulations.gov/HHS-OASH-2026-0397-7030/attachment_1.docx"],"attachment_inventory":true,"withheld":false,"source":"https://www.regulations.gov/comment/HHS-OASH-2026-0397-7030","tags":["child-development","health-experiences","biology-metabolism","exposure-places","policy-standards","research-evidence"],"source_hash":"7a823d6349d324dc78c0b00f7b9aaa74b9c413f741e91f7474a718cfaeacf284","slug":"child-development-comment-7030","classification":null,"forum_topics":["awaiting-review"],"primary_topic":"awaiting-review","forum_title":"I am submitting this comment as an electrosensitive indvidual concerned about the nowadays unavoidable lo…"}
