Two years ago we had a smart meter installed at our home. We tried to stop the installation, however, Wisconsin doesn't allow an opt out. Our daughter began to experience strange symptoms, hand pain, a combination of burning and tingling, hair loss, severe weight loss, rapid heart rate and irritability. We took her into our primary care doctor who ran some labs and came back saying she has Graves' disease. We have still been unable to restore her health and get the smart meter removed. \nMy heart's desire is to have this legislation changed where at a minimum, people should be allowed to opt out of smart meters and 5g being placed on and or near their homes. Our children are growing sicker every year. Each child deserves a chance to be give a healthy environment to grow into healthy adults. My daughter's Graves disease is hard and incredibly sad, but others out there have children fighting for their lives in cancer battles due to all this radiation. \n\nI support HHS taking an active role in examining the potential health and environmental effects of wireless radiation. Questions about human health should be addressed by federal agencies with appropriate expertise in medicine, biology, epidemiology, and public health, and the experiences of individuals and families who report being affected should be considered alongside the scientific evidence.\n\nI urge HHS to carefully evaluate these experiences and the scientific evidence, identify gaps in current research, give particular attention to children and other potentially vulnerable populations, and establish appropriate federal research priorities regarding wireless radiation and public health.\n\nThank you for providing individuals and families with an opportunity to be heard.","attachments":[],"attachment_inventory":true,"withheld":false,"source":"https://www.regulations.gov/comment/HHS-OASH-2026-0397-6739","tags":["cancer-tumors","child-development","health-experiences","exposure-places","research-evidence"],"source_hash":"446e053cbb2d5888d5c359c0cf83f5ddf0ffa6f6bc0f56f8c3b89f9c4f21b0f2","slug":"cancer-tumors-comment-6739","classification":{"id":"HHS-OASH-2026-0397-6739","body_sha256":"7ff1ab9e46c4a0aa42db6a4fa0a914d8b167cce0803bd1f8191a187bac5f5fd5","status":"ai_reviewed","primary_topic":"smart-meters","topics":[{"id":"smart-meters","evidence":"Wisconsin doesn't allow an opt out."},{"id":"children","evidence":"Our daughter began to experience strange symptoms"},{"id":"research","evidence":"establish appropriate federal research priorities regarding wireless radiation and public health."}],"summary":"A parent reports a daughter’s Graves’ disease and other symptoms after smart-meter installation, requests meter and nearby 5G opt-outs, and supports child-focused HHS research.","reviewed_at":"2026-10-28T23:54:32Z","review_method":"Full comment-text review with exact source evidence; attachments not reviewed","review_source_sha256":"c24cb3948b255a65e373d1b2e176eb5444fdbeae6a82806338009e297e132c71","source_url":"https://rfsafe.net/hhs-comments/data/catalog.json","scope":"Original comment body; attachments excluded"},"forum_topics":["smart-meters","children","research"],"primary_topic":"smart-meters","forum_title":"A parent reports a daughter’s Graves’ disease and other symptoms after smart-meter installation, requests…"}
