Bansal and Mahajan, 2018 found in a study of 450 Indian\nchildren under 15 years of age in the pediatric department at the\nteaching for tertiary care that more than one third of them ( 35.7%)\nwere suffering from eye symptoms including eye strain and eye\nwatering (8). In another recent study, which included 177 Saudi\nstudents studying at a middle school in the city of Riyadh, their ages\nranged 12 to 116 years old, found that using the smartphone for more\nthan 28 hours a week causes visual disturbance [9].\n\nEar problem\nIncrease the temperature in the ear lobes by approximately 10 degrees\nCelsius may cause auditory disturbances when using the mobile for a\nperiod of 20 minutes continuously and for longer periods because the\nradiation emitted from the mobile may cause damage to the sensitive\nparts of the inner ear, as well as people who use phones including\nchildren for 2-3 hours a day and for a period of 3-5 years may be\nexposed to the occurrence of partial deafness and even may eventually\nexposed to ear tumor or permanent hearing [8].\n\nNeurological effects\nNeurologically, the microwave radiation emitted from mobile phones\nthrough the Wi-Fi device is mostly affects the head region [10]. In a\nstudy carried out by Cerutti R, et al (2016) they revealed that exposure\nthe adolescents to some harmful effects like headache attacks and\nother somatic problems as result to excessive use of mobile devices [11].\nAnd exposure to headache was significantly associated with mobile\nphone use among Twainish children in another study published in 2015\n[6]. Recently, Jo Fowler and Jan Noyes, found that the children aged 11-\n14 years in south west of England at risk of muscular skeletal problems\ndue to mobile use [4].\n\nPsychiatric effects\nIn a recent study conducted in South Korea by Seong-Soo Cha and Bo-\nKyung Seo revealed that the lethargy and depression were more in risk\ngroup (excessive mobile users) than the normal user group, and these\nfindings were tendency to significant difference [12]. But in another\nstudy carried out on a group of Japanese young people aged 15-19\nyears, it revealed that the use of mobile phone for social networking\nservices, and conversation with others for two hours or more is\nsignificantly linked to a high risk rate with depression [13]. Some studies\nindicate that there is a correlation between the use of mobile phones\nand stress, some of which negate this as it is difficult to interpret and\nsummarize the relationship between them [14]. Some researchers have\nproven that mobile use causes increased stress and others have proven\nthe opposite [14]. In a study conducted on a group of high school\nrespondents, their mean age was 11.97 years [15]. The reason for this\nmay be that Children may experience various biological and\npsychological changes during their lifetime for a daily period [15]. As for\nthe correlation between exposure to anxiety and the use of mobile\nphones, two recent studies proved to have been set forth investigating\nby Elhai, et al and another by Nassehi, et al [14]. They proved that there\nis an important correlation between the occurrence of anxiety and the\nuse of mobile phones.\"\n\nSleep problems and brain tumor info was also mentioned in the article. But they take up more space than I have here.","attachments":[],"attachment_inventory":true,"withheld":false,"source":"https://www.regulations.gov/comment/HHS-OASH-2026-0397-6420","tags":["cancer-tumors","child-development","health-experiences","sleep-cognition","exposure-places","research-evidence"],"source_hash":"e24aa923d9f2172d27d089f0fac94ef5096270a2b373d804894dee9a5b014e84","slug":"cancer-tumors-comment-6420","classification":{"id":"HHS-OASH-2026-0397-6420","body_sha256":"42725a18e789ce312ac5d7c22f250fcf8e071899853f42a40469a0adf967da06","status":"ai_reviewed","primary_topic":"research","topics":[{"id":"research","evidence":" Health Aspects of Children\nand Adolescents: Evidence Based Review Article\"\n\n\"Eye health\nRepeated use of the mobile phone for long periods "},{"id":"children","evidence":"Mobile_Phone_Usage_on_Some_Health_Aspects_of_Children_and_Adolescents_Evidence_Based_Review_Article/links/5dab6188a6fd"},{"id":"neurological","evidence":"osed to ear tumor or permanent hearing [8].\n\nNeurological effects\nNeurologically, the microwave radiation emitted from mobile phon"},{"id":"cancer","evidence":"the eye in different ways where it can cause eye tumor\ndue to the high temperature of the eye due to exposure to\nelectr"}],"summary":"The commenter quotes a review of mobile-phone use among children and adolescents covering visual, hearing, neurological and psychological outcomes, including differing findings about stress.","reviewed_at":"2026-10-28T23:54:32Z","review_method":"Full comment-text review with exact source evidence; attachments not reviewed","review_source_sha256":"df01014a94a1f563638b5e35db16462bb5bea91ab5e91c435f773eb55d30b82a","source_url":"https://rfsafe.net/hhs-comments/data/catalog.json","scope":"Original comment body; attachments excluded"},"forum_topics":["research","children","neurological","cancer"],"primary_topic":"research","forum_title":"The commenter quotes a review of mobile-phone use among children and adolescents covering visual, hearing…"}
